Music Videos

I'm working on some album reviews. Unfortunately, I'm also working on a philosophy paper and several pointless projects for classes that I hate. I didn't want to completely abandon this blog, so here's an update.

So, a lot of music videos are really crappy. However, there are also some really cool ones. Here is a short list of music videos that I actually like.

"Almost Lover" by A Fine Frenzy-Alison Sudol, you make me want to cry and eat ice cream. The song itself is sad enough, but then she has to go and make an equally depressing video. Having said that, I absolutely love this song. I think there are two versions of this video, and I think I've seen both. However, I'm most familiar with the newest version. VH1 often plays it in the morning, so I taped it one day. If I feel like randomly crying some day, I'll be sure to play it.

"Turpentine" by Brandi Carlile
-Ok, so no Twins in this one. That's slightly disappointing, but it makes sense. I love this song, and the video is much more intimate than the one for "The Story." I think it has something to do with the fact that "Turpentine" takes place in a really small room. Brandi looks great, and I want that guitar. I'm not kidding. I'll even pay her for it. But not a lot, since I'm kind of poor. I'll run her merchandise stand, without pay, for a month. That should take care of it. I wonder how people get that job. Back when Michelle Branch was first starting out, her best friend ran the stand. I bought a t-shirt from her and asked her to sign my Spirit Room CD, since she co-wrote some of the songs. Yeah, that was completely off topic. For some reason, this video doesn't seem to be getting as much play as "The Story," even though I like it a lot more. Go figure. Then again, I also have it on tape, so I guess it really doesn't matter.

"1, 2, 3, 4" by Feist-This song is crazy, and the video is even crazier. I know very little about Feist, but she seems pretty cool. Vh1 tends to overplay this video, but I still like it. The dancing is great, and it puts a smile on my face.

"How Far We've Come"-Matchbox Twenty, I missed you. I love all the clips, and they work really well with the song. In addition, there aren't any confusing story lines to follow (I'm looking at you, Maroon 5!), which makes me very happy.

"Dear Mr. President" (Live) by Pink-The audience reaction to this song is amazing. Her voice sounds great, and I love how intimate the whole performance feels, despite the fact that it takes place at Wembley Arena.

"Love Song" by Sara Bareilles-How cool is the concept for this video? A little Sara lives in a jukebox, playing the same love song for everyone who drops a coin through the slot. One day, she gets fed up and jams the thing. Get it? "I'm not gonna write you a love song..." I just think it's really cool and entertaining. I only saw it once, since VH1 is too busy playing Colbie Caillat all the time. However, I really liked it. Also, "Love Song" is my second favorite track on Sara's CD, so I'm obviously a bit biased.

There are, of course, other great videos. If there's one you really like, let me know.
